BHS youth service "bashes" fundraising expectations
(3/18/15) Blaine High School (BHS) youth service students on March 18 presented Feed My Starving Children with a check for $1,722,.96 which will provide 7,831 meals to malnourished children in remote countries; and donated 18 storage lockers valued at $629.46 to the Hope 4 Youth homeless youth outreach center in Anoka.
The fundraising effort was coordinated by Blaine High School (BHS) youth service students, who hosted a “Bengal B.A.S.H. (Bengals Against Starvation and Homelessness)” January 28, to raise awareness about starvation and homelessness, locally. The group "bashed" fundraising expectations by getting the entire student body involved.
The students coordinated a two-week “Survivor” fundraiser to support Feed My Starving Children and Hope 4 Youth, a teen homeless shelter in the community. Twelve BHS teachers participated in the fundraiser, in which students voted for which teacher will remain in the game by donating to the fundraising cause.
The storage lockers provide youth in need with a safe and secure place to store personal belongings while they search for permanent shelter. Hope 4 Youth already had 16 storage lockers, with 11 youth on a waiting list. After the BHS student donation, storage lockers available more than doubled.
