Parent Guide to rschool today calendar

Welcome students and parents to Jackson Middle School Community Education:

We are fortunate the Anoka-Hennepin School district #11 offers students the opportunity to participate in after school athletics and enrichment classes thru Community Education.  "Middle School" is the time to try various classes, activities, and sports.

After school hours are a critical time for youth.  Quality after-school programs keep kids safe, improve academic achievement and help relieve the stresses on today's working families.  Families will benefit from the safe, structured learning opportuniites that our after school programs provide.

We will begin to accept registrations for Fall 2012 Athletics, on-line, after August 1, and will start to accept registrations, in person, at our two open house dates, Monday, August 29 from 4:00 - 8:00pm and Wednesday, August 31 from 6:00 - 8:00pm .  All forms can be downloaded at our JMS Community Education site, click on "JMS athletics and Enrichment Classes/Schedules/Forms.

Welcome to the Anoka-Hennepin Community Education's Middle School Athletic & Enrichment Program at Jackson Middle School. All students are encouraged to participate and enjoy a variety of experiences during their enrollment at Jackson Middle School. This is the time to try out various classes, activities and sports. These activities are intended to enhance the educational opportunities for students outside the school day especially in the areas of teamwork, leadership, social growth, team spirit and respect for others.

Our middle school Community Education motto is:

"If you have FUN … You have WON!"

REGISTRATION PROCESS for Athletics and Enrichment Classes: Our athletic and enrichment opportunities are promoted various ways: on-line at www.discovercommunityed.com, on Jackson's school website (under PARENT INFO), on the school monitor, and thru flyers available in the Community Education Office. Class offerings are also announced on the Daily Announcements for students each morning.

You can register on-line for our after school programs at www.discovercommunityed.com. You will be asked to create a secure profile, giving you convenient 24-hour registration access. Credit card payment is required.

You can also pick up registration forms (and drop them off when completed) in Jackson's Community Education office.

Early registration is a must, as the classes do have a size limit and fill quickly.

FEE ASSISTANCE: Available to students on free and reduced lunch programs by contacting the Jackson Community Education office.

REFUND POLICY: Refund requests with five-business days notice of class start may qualify for a partial refund (cash, credit or coupon) less $10. Refund requests with less than five-business days notice of class start are not eligible for refund.

ACTIVITY BUS: Provided to bus the students within a reasonable distance of their homes on a Monday-Thursday basis. There is no charge to ride the activity bus. It is the parent's responsibility to provide transportation home on Fridays and after buses return students to JMS after games.

COACHES/INSTRUCTORS: Our program hires certified coaches, licensed teachers and knowledgeable staff.

A T H L E T I C   P R O G R A M:

All students are encouraged to participate in athletics regardless of their skills. The emphasis will be placed on skill development with participation for all. Students will have the opportunity to participate in an interscholastic athletic program competing against the other middle schools within the District. You may notice in the athletic offerings below that a sport offered to 6th grader exclusively (i.e. 6 Gr Volleyball and Basketball) has a shorter season in comparison to other grades. This is because the sport is introductory in nature, giving your child a chance to improve his or her skills or to develop new ones.

Practices and Games: Practices begin right after school and continue until 5:05 pm. Games start at 4:00 pm and will usually end by 6 pm. Practice and game schedules will be handed out the first week of practice. Changes and cancellations may occur to schedules due to weather or transportation issues. Every effort will be made to make up cancellations at a later date.

Equipment and Uniforms: Equipment and uniforms are provided for most sports. It is the student's responsibility for equipment and/or uniform cost when lost, abused or stolen.

Game/Match Schedules: Game results for all our athletic competitions are posted at: Jackson Middle School Calendar and click on Scores/Standings. Based on registration numbers, A & B level teams will be formed on player skill level.
