!!!!!!!! NOTICE TO 7th GRADE PARENTS !!!!!!!!
The schedule for racing CO2 cars has been changed. The "Day 1" class WILL NOT race their cars on Friday because Mr Reiersen's class is not ready to race their cars. The Day 1 classes will race their CO2 cars on Tuesday January 26th. The "Day 2" classes will still race their CO2 cars on Monday January 25th as originally planned.
PARENTS/GUARDIANS/FAMILY MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO COME AND WATCH THE RACES!
WELCOME TO MY CLASSROOM WEBPAGE!
Thank you to all of the parents and students who visited my classroom during our 1st quarter conference nights. It was fun to meet all of you and give you a chance to see what your daughter or son has been learning in Tech-Ed so far this year... There is still a lot of fun remaining in my classes!!!
My 7th grade students just completed their painted wall clock project last week. They have learned machine safety to prepare themselves to use equipment like the drill press, scroll saw, band saw, and many types of sanding machines this year. This week we will begin our CO2 powered race car building. Students in my classes will also get a chance to select from a variety of computer-based learning modules starting in about 2 more weeks in our modular technology lab.
8th graders are nearing the completion of our furniture quality hardwood clock. We began assembly of all of the parts today and will be staining, applying coats of polyurethane finish, and then attaching all of the clock hardware during the first 2 weeks of 2nd quarter. Later this quarter, we will have units where they produce projects with electronic circuit boards, 3 dimensional solid modeling CADD, LEGO Mindstorms robotics, Internet blogs, and a group problem-solving & engineering challenge.
Any student who is absent from class or behind schedule should plan to come in before or after school to get caught up on their work. I will be available on particular days that I have listed as "Open Lab" for students to do make-up work of get caught up on classwork they do no get completed during their normal class time.
Oak View offers a wide variety of after-school activities, and Mr Reiersen and I offer woodworking club activities, fall FIRST LEGO League, winter robotics, and SuperMileage Vehicle team opportunities for students who enjoy hands-on engineering and design learning activities. The first meeting for students who would like to be on the SuperMileage Vehicle team will be after school in late November or December. Listen to announcements throughout the school year or check back on my website for more details about all of our after-school groups.
I'm glad that you took time to look up my classroom webpage. I plan to make this website a very useful tool for students, parents & guardians, and other staff who want to learn all about Technology Education here at Oak View. You can click on the buttons at the header area for a particular course to learn about what we are doing on specific days or to access other class information. I may not have activities listed for every day, but I will have important dates like when we start a new unit, due dates, ans well as progress checks along the way.
I will also be adding new items that can be downloaded in case your student "forgets" to bring home assignments or forms that must be returned. Eventually I will have practice tests and even some videos to help with missed safety demonstrations and such.
Good luck to all of my students! I look forward to a fantastic school year at Oak View.
