A poem for parents on the first day of kindergarten:

The First Day 
I gave you a little wink and smile 
As you entered my room today. 
For I know how hard it is to leave 
And know your child must stay. 
You've been with him for five years now 
And have been a loving guide, 
But now, alas, the time has come 
To leave him at my side. 
Just know that as you drive away 
And tears down your cheeks may flow 
I'll love him as I would my own 
And help him learn and grow. 
For as a parent, I too know 
How quickly the years do pass 
And that one day soon it will be my turn 
To take my child to class. 
So please put your mind at ease 
And cry those tears no more 
For I will love him and take him in 
When you leave him at my door.

Our daily schedule:
9:15-9:30: morning work
9:30-9:50: morning meeting
9:50-10:30: writing workshop
10:30-12:05: literacy block (guided reading, word work)
11:35-12:05: Science (Mondays only)
Class bathroom break (children are allowed to use the bathroom whenever they need to during class also)
12:14-12:39: Lunch
12:39-1:10: Literacy Block (shared reading)
1:10-2:00: Math
2:00-2:25: Recess
2:25-3:25: Prep para (Wendy Roetering comes in to do various art projects, math workshop and media center with the kids)
2:55-3:25: Social Studies (Mondays only)
3:25-3:45: Calendar math and other math activities
3:45-3:55: ready to go
3:55-4:00: dismissal
