Student Learning Advocates (SLA):

  • Meet with students individually or in groups to support and advocate for regarding social, academic, and multicultural issues.

 

  • Team with counselors, AP's, teachers, parents/guardians and other support staff to ensure success for all students.

 

  • Act as a resource for students and staff on multicultural issues (student groups, classroom presentations, staff development).

  •  Facilitate and supervise mediations.

 

  • Meet with students individually or in groups who need support in connection to chemical use.

 

  •  Groups for students who are struggling with family issues or changes, quitting chemical use or the chemical use of family or friends.

 

 Groups offered:  

  • family change,
  • quitting chemicals,
  • concerned persons 
  •  teen issues
  • gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender support group

  • Assist students in crisis, including suicide intervention, or for significant mental health issues

 

  • Provide individual and/or group counseling for students receiving special education services

 

  • Coordinate and case manage 504 plans

 

  • Assist students and families in connecting with community mental health services

 

  • Assist the Intervention Team to intervene with students at risk of academic failure

 

  • Provide consultation to parents and school staff to find effective solutions to learning and behavior problems

 

  • Offer presentations on various mental health topics to classrooms, parent groups and staff upon request

Violence Prevention Advocate - Alexandra House

  • Provide support groups to students who have experienced violence in dating relationships, within their families or who have experienced sexual violence

 

  • Provides individual advocacy and safety planning for students who have experienced violence in dating, within their families, or sexual violence

 

  • Provide classroom presentations on a variety of topics such as domestic and dating violence, healthy relationships, safety planning, sexual violence, child abuse and legal adocacy/domestic abuse and the criminal justice system.
