Interenet Saftey Message for February |
“Last month we started talking about online safety. It may be fun to check out new people, but be aware that, while some people are nice, others act nice because they're trying to get something. Flattering or supportive messages may be more about manipulation than friendship.
I think you’ve all heard stories about creepy people online, but we want to remind you that you don’t have to deal with someone who makes you feel uncomfortable. Be cautious when communicating with people you don't know in person, especially if the conversation starts to be inappropriate or too personal or if the person suggests to meet in person. If they persist, tell your parents, a trusted adult or contact the police.
Also remember, as you talk to people online, remember that texting, IMing, or emailing really is no different than talking to someone in person. If you wouldn't say it to someone's face, it's not OK to type it. Interact with tact.” |
