The Rum River Association of Families and Teachers, RAFT, is a partnership of parents and staff committed to creating an exceptional educational experience for all Rum River students. Our mission is to strengthen, enhance and encourage the educational and social environment and experiences at Rum River Elementary. RAFT strives to complement the school’s curriculum with additional opportunities for parents, teachers and students to learn, socialize, communicate and grow.
· We support our students and staff: o Underwrite and scholarship many field trips o Purchase Smart Boards for classrooms o Sponsor I Love To Read Month & the summer reading program o Coordinate meals for staff during fall and spring conferences. o Manage Teacher Appreciation Week
· We build a strong community within our school: o Winterfest – the perfect pre-holiday event for the whole family o Carnival – kick off spring with all your friends at our family festival o Disguise a turkey drawing contest o Ice Cream For Books and Numbers (a great kids’ book exchange) o Movie night o Exclusive Rum River Apparel o Rum River Against Hunger o 5th Grade Kindness Retreat with Youth Frontiers o Student and family directory o Yearbook o 5th Grade graduation party
· We fund our work through: o Walk for the Wolves o Two book fairs during the year o Happenings Books sales o Boxtops, soup labels and milk carton tops.
· We strive to provide meaningful and relevant information to parents through speakers at our monthly meetings held every second Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. media center.
