VOLUNTEER SERVICES PROGRAM

ABCs of Reading Workshop for Volunteers

Monday, March 8, 2010   12 noon - 3 pm

This hands-on workshop is designed for volunteers who help students with literacy in grades K-3. Research shows that the most successful volunteers are those who directly support the primary instruction students receive from their teachers. This workshop is designed to do just that!

For location information and to register, contact a volunteer services coordinator at any school by Friday, February 26, 2010.

This workshop is brought to you by Anoka-Hennepin Parent Involvement/Volunteer Services and the Minnesota Literacy Council.

HOW DO I START VOLUNTEERING?

Interested in Volunteering?
If you are interesting in volunteering for the Anoka-Hennepin School District, or know someone who is, please click the Volunteer Services Coordinator (VSC) Directory link in the left-hand index to find the name and phone number of the VSC for your school and a direct link to their school's volunteer Web page.
Your VSC will be able to tell you what the current volunteer needs are for the school.

  • Complete a Volunteer Application Form and Criminal Record History Release Form (both forms are required for every new school year). For your convenience, you may download your school's new 2009-2010 Volunteer Application Form and Criminal Record History Release Form from the school's volunteer Web page.
  • Have your student return the completed forms to the school office or mail the completed forms directly to the school VSC. You will find the school's mailing address on the bottom of the Volunteer Application Form. If you have any questions be sure to call the school VSC!

Volunteers, when you are at a school, please remember to:

  • Sign in and out on the Volunteer Register
  • Wear a name badge while in the building
  • Record your hours on the Volunteer Register
  • Complete and return a new Volunteer Application Form and new Criminal History Information Release Form to your school's VSC every school year in which you volunteer before you start your volunteer assignment

The district and schools rely on this information to provide an accurate accounting of the level of volunteer activity in our schools. Please help keep our participation statistics accurate for this purpose.

Haven't returned your school Volunteer Application Form or Criminal Record History Release Form yet? Can't remember where you put them? No problem, just download them and return them to the Volunteer Services Coordinator at your school.

Follow these easy steps:

  1. Click on the "Volunteer Services Coordinator Directory" on the bar at the left.
  2. Locate the school where you will be volunteering.
  3. Click on that school's link which will take you to their Volunteer Home page.
  4. Click on the "Volunteer Forms" link and you'll see your forms!

If you have any problems viewing or downloading the Volunteer Forms, please contact the Volunteer Services Coordinator for assistance. Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Anoka-Hennpin Schools!
