MCA Testing and Other Reminders |
Hello, this is Beth Wilkie, interim principal, with a message for Families of Lincoln Elementary School for the Arts!
Tuesday and Wednesday will be MCA reading testing days for students in grades 3, 4, and 5. The test will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. both days. Research shows that students preform better with a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast. If your children eat breakfast here at Lincoln, please make sure they arrive with plenty of time to eat and get to class before 9:30. These test scores are not only to see how the state, district, and individual schools perform, but are also used as a piece of the puzzle for students’ academic placement in enrichment and remediation classes. Though the test are only given in grades 3 through 5, our entire building’s schedule changes, so know that your child’s specials may be effected no matter what the grade may be.
PTO would like to remind families that the Club’s Choice fundraiser pick up is Tuesday after school from 4-6 p.m. in the gym.
The school carnival is fast approaching on April 26th. If you can volunteer to help, please contact Diana Orr, our Volunteer Services Coordinator. If you are able to donate to your child’s class theme basket, or to their fund to buy a large ticket item, please have those in by Friday so parents can put the baskets together and classes can decide what they will purchase for the carnival.
Thanks so much for all of your help!
Have a great evening. |

Family Math Night |
Hello! This is Beth Wilkie, interim principal at Lincoln Elementary School for the Arts with a brief message for students and families.
Tomorrow night, Tuesday January 15th is once again our Family Math Night from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Please join us for an evening of fun while exploring the wonders of math with your family, friends, and community. There will be a variety of math activities including games, estimating jars, prizes, a snack, and more. We hope to see you tomorrow evening at 6 o’clock.
Our district has been reviewing crisis and safety plans. One change that will begin TUESDAY, JANUARY 22nd, is that all adults must sign in and out of the office any time they are at school while students are here. This already occurs most of the time, however, it will be a change for breakfast. Parents and adults will no longer be able to access the cafeteria from the playground area before school in order to eat breakfast. We do not want to discourage our families from joining their children for breakfast, but from now on we are requiring adults to enter through the main front doors and sign in upon arrival. We ask that you sign out as well when you leave. We understand that this is a change and is a little less convenient, but for the safety of our children it is a change that will need to be made.
As you have noticed, the temperature has been quite chilly recently. Please help us to be sure the children are dressed for it. Many students are arriving with no hats or mittens. If you are missing items, please come and check our lost and found! We have an abundance of snowpants, hats, mittens, and jackets that have accumulated over the winter. If you’re coming for Family Math Night tomorrow night, it would be a great time to stop by and see if there are any items belonging to your child. Clothing not picked up by the end of this week will be donated to charity.
Have a great evening and we hope to see you tomorrow night! |

Sandy Hook Tragedy |
Hello Lincoln families, this is your principal, Mrs. Donovan
Today’s tragic school shooting was covered extensively by the media. News crews from KSTP and KARE11 were in our district today to talk with administrators about the steps Anoka-Hennepin takes to keep students safe. I want to assure you that the safety of our students is our top priority.
When you came to pick up your children today, you might have noticed a news crew at our school. Please know they were not outside our school for a specific reason; they were here for a story on school safety in general.
Please call me at 763-506-3101 if you have any questions or concerns. |

MCA Testing |
Beginning Monday and going for the next few weeks, students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will be taking the MN Comprehensive Assessment tests in both math and reading. 5th grade students will also be taking the MCA science test. The math and science tests must be taken on-line, in a wired computer lab. While we have many wireless laptop computers for student use here at Lincoln, we do not have a wired computer lab. Therefore, we will be busing students to hard-wired computer labs at our district Learning Center on Ferry street. A letter went home with each student in grades 3-5 today, providing more details, as well as a calendar of when your child will go to the Learning Center for the math and/or science MCA test. The state reading test will be taken here at school on the 17th and 18th, as it is a paper/pencil test. Please read the letter that was sent home today for more details, and call me if you have any further questions. I will be happy to help in any way I can. Thank you, and have a wonderful Easter weekend! |

Hello Lincoln famlies, this is your principal, Mrs. Donovan with a Friday school message. I want to first thank the many families that attended the Math Event at school last night. There were well over 200 participants, which was very exciting to see. It was great fun.
Second, I want to make you aware of two safety concerns that occurred last week before the Thanksgiving break. We have involved police and these two are not connected. The first was a stranger around one of our bus stops. The second involved one of our staff members who was the victim of indecent exposure while leaving school in the evening.
We have reviewed “Stranger Danger” information with our students. We remind them to walk together to and from school and to identify safe locations they can go if they need to. When we talk about this topic with elementary age students, we want them to know the specific steps they can take to keep themselves safe. When you talk with your children, I encourage you to do the same. The matter of the indecent exposure is being handled by Anoka Police. I am working closely with them and there are additional patrols around our school. As always, you should report to the police any suspicious activity you see. If you have questions about anything affecting our school, please contact me in the main office.
Finally, PTO asked me to remind everyone that the permission form for the upcoming roller skating activity in p.e. classes has been extended to December 9th. Every student must turn in a signed permission slip in order to participate in the unit. Financial assistance is available for anyone in need, but we must receive the signed permission slip to participate. Extra forms are available in the front office. Thank you so much! Enjoy the 3 day weekend with your family. Students return to school on Tuesday, December 6th. Good bye. |

“Let’s Talk About It Anoka County” |
Good day! This is your Lincoln principal, Mrs. Donovan, with an announcement from the Anoka-Hennepin School District.
We all have busy lives, so I would like to give you advanced notice about an important event worth your time happening October 10 at Anoka High School. “Let’s Talk about it Anoka County” is a chance for the community to come together to learn about mental health, mental wellness and suicide prevention.
The last few years have been hard for our community. Many of our families have been touched by the recession and we’ve lost both students and staff at our school. We’ve worked hard to pull together to help our families, friends, and most importantly our students, hang tough and move forward, but there’s always more we can do.
Everyone is invited to this free event. Free pizza and a resource fair kick of the evening at 5:30 p.m. The program gets underway at 6:30 p.m.; we’ll have you out of there by 8 p.m. Again the date is October 10 at Anoka High School called “Let’s Talk About It, Anoka County”. If you have questions about the event, go to www.save.org/talk. |
