Equal opportunity policies revised to prohibit retaliation – Oct. 25, 2010
Monday, October 25th, 2010

Summary

The School Board added to its equal opportunity policies a prohibition of retaliation against anyone who makes an allegation of harassment and anyone who participates in the investigation.

Issue in Brief

The Equal Educational Opportunity and Equal Employment Opportunity protect the civil rights of student and district employees. These policies specifically prohibit discrimination on the basis of a person's race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, disability, status with regard to public assistance, sexual orientation or age.

The district has language to this effect in other policies, but putting it in these locations will clarify to anyone reading these that the district wants to protect people who make complaints that their civil rights have been violated. The board unanimously approved this revision at its meeting Oct. 25, 2010.
