ADAMS PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL

February 2, 2006

Attendees: David Knauber, Bill Kiecker, Jennifer Bendel-Artman, Ben Butzer, Michelle Zimmerman, Shawna Kee, Lynn Montgomery, Vicki Reynolds, Darcy Hanson, Barb Dupont, Lisa Meek, Kim Kiecker, Leanne Hyde, James White, Ann Roberge, Nancy Leba, Cathy McAuliffe.

WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER: Ann Roberge called the meeting to order at 7:00PM

APPROVAL OF AGENDA: MSC.

APPROVAL OF January 5, 2006 MINUTES:  MSC

TREASURERS’ REPORT: Kim Kiecker & Leanne Hyde: DARE was under budget; Needs and Resources paid out; Paid for Food Fundraiser; Barnes & Nobles: $352.41.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: Nancy Leba

1.   Crisis Manual complete; clear backpacks in each classroom.

2.   Adams getting Student Teachers this spring from Bemidji, St. Catherine’s, Bethel, and Concordia.

3.   Anoka-Hennepin coming out with new logo, as well as for Adams (to make uniform).

4.   January was very busy month.  Report cards came home today.

GUEST SPEAKER: Talent Development

  Lynn Montgomery (District Gift & Talented coordinator, Magnet Schools, and Grant Writer)

3 Types of Talent Development:

  Type I: Exploration. Sign up and come.  Destination Imagination, CE classes, Reading clubs.

  Type II: Enrichment. Love for or skill in. Challenge Math, Science Museum, University of MN, Art  Discovery, Young Authors Conference,

  Type III: In depth or extended opportunities. Math and Reading once a week for 50 minutes, at high or vigorous level. Concludes with “Showcase of Excellence” program in May.

  Shawna Kee (Coon Rapids Cluster Talent Development Teacher)

  Currently at Adams have 3, 4, & 5 Grade Reading groups, 5th Grade Math, and Interest Classes.  Use MCAs, MAPs, teacher recommendations, Parent identification, and student interest to place students. North Suburban Summer Academy coming this summer for Grades 2-12.

  VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR REPORT: ADRIENNE SCHRUNK

1.   DARE graduation went great. Officer Berglund made CD with pictures for sale to students.

2.   Books for Bingo was this week.

3.   Kindergarten Data collection is complete.  Check out the article in Star Tribune.com.

4.   Calculating of hours for volunteers complete.

5.   Maude Hart Lovelace reading: Buttons handed out.

6.   Parenting conference this Saturday at Staff Development.

7.   Culvers: Track & Field Day May 19.

8.   Fundraiser Committee will meet soon before March Fundraiser Fest.

9.   Discussion and warning about “MySpace.com. Story on Kare11.

  COMMITTEE REPORTS

*   PROGRAMS: James White: March: Roberts Rule of Order; April: Ms. Shager; May: Wandrei

*   PUBLIC RELATIONS: Dave Knauber: No report.

*   FINANCE REPORT:  No report

*   CARNIVAL: Meetings each month.

OPEN FORUM

*   New computers in Media Center in place; laptops coming soon.

*   Chucke Cheese doing Fundraiser nights too. Possible on March 14.

*   Spirit Wear: Much discussion about One time order versus maintaining  inventory. Committee will discuss further.

*   Classroom Birthday Celebrations: more discussion later on possibly changing.
