Information for Parents

M innesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA)

Anoka Middle School Testing Schedule

Spring 2013

Mathematics: April 8 - May 18

( During their scheduled math class)

Reading: April 16 & 17

8:30-10:55

8th Grade Science: May 9th - 15th

( During their scheduled science class )

Each year, all Minnesota students in grades six through eight must take the MCA III in math and the MCA II in reading.  In addition, students in grade eight will take the MCA II science test the week of May 9th.  These tests are required in order to promote high standards of learning and success for all students in the state.  The tests provide beneficial information about your child's progress and help us make decisions to ensure your child's continued success.  You will receive a report informing you of your child's testing results sometime during the summer.

PARENTS…YOU CAN HELP!

√   Mark your calendar!   Make sure your child attends school on testing days.  Schedule appointments, vacations, etc. on dates other than April 16 and 17.  8th Grade students should also make sure they are in school during the week of April 25 when they are to take the computerized assessment for science (this test will be administered during their regular scheduled science class).  The computerized math test will be given during their scheduled math class.  The teachers will have the specific dates for each class and will be communicating this information with their students.

√  Remind your child to take the time to answer each question on the test and to go back and check their work.

√  Encourage your child to get plenty of rest and to eat nutritious meals during the testing period.  Just a reminder that breakfast is available at the school from 8:00am - 8:20am

√  Volunteer to monitor hallways during testing.  We want to keep our hallways as quiet as possible.  To volunteer call Tiina Watts, Volunteer Coordinator @ 763-506-5135.
