Attention all middle school families: Anoka-Hennepin Schools is proud to offer all sixth, seventh and eighth grade students a summer virtual learning experience online using Compass Learning. The program is a video based math and reading support program. Anoka-Hennepin is excited to again offer Summer Virtual Learning as feedback from last year was positive. Here are the details: Who: All current (2012-13) A-H sixth through eighth grade students not enrolled in traditional summer school are invited to participate. When: Summer Virtual Learning starts June 17th and ends July 19th. Students will need at least 90 minutes of time on task (45 minutes math/45 minutes reading) per day in their “classroom” space five days a week. Why: Research shows that when students are academically engaged during the summer students retain their learning from the previous grade and return to school ready to learn without a "summer slide." Where: Done from home online, the program creates an individualized learning path for each student based on spring MAP scores. Students must have access to a computer and broadband Internet. How: Parents will act as the learning coach to support their students at home. Students will be assigned a virtual teacher who will monitor and adjust lessons based on progress. Additionally, there will be weekly open lab sessions for students to attend voluntarily. Registration: Registration is now open. Parents and students will receive email confirmation after June 12th with login instructions. Click here for more program information. Click here for more information regarding Compass Learning.
