Task 1 My group has decided to work with the topic of nanotechnology in the application of creating a better place to be. This is a world-wide application because this invention would be able to be used in all kinds of ways, including cancer treatment, reattaching limbs, . Nanobots are fairly young in their development. Their creation began with a speech. American physicist, Richard Feynman, made a address entitled, “There’s Plenty of Room at the Bottom,” at an American Physical Society meeting at Caltech in 1959. it has often been held as the inspiration of nanotechnology. he talked about a process in which the capability to manipulate individual atoms and molecules could be developed. Norio Taniguchi, a Japanese scientist, first coined the term, “nano-technology,” in a 1974 conference. his definition was, “Nano-technology mainly consists of the processing of, separation, consolidation, and deformation of materials by one atom or one molecule.” |
Task 2 The founding agencies of Nanotechnology are primarily the Chinese government. |
Task 3 Nano-technology has advanced science a lot since it has been created. It has allowed us to do things that have never been done before. Nano-technology is being used in many different applications. It has been used in self-cleaning windows, and in more efficient lighting. LED lights are an example of this. They are semi-conductors that convert electricity into light. One of the only drawbacks about nano-technology is its health concerns. There is a great debate being started about how it will affect human health. They have the power to be used to cure disease, and the ability to take life away. The concern is that the nano-materials are so small that they are taken in by the body more readily, and their large surface area means that they adsorb to fluids and tissues. Nano technology is also bad for the environment. The waste produced from the manufacturing of nano-material is thrust into the environment and can penetrate plant and animal easily. Since it doesn’t occur in nature, the organisms systems won’t be able to cope and might possibly die. Nano technology has allowed the world to do and continue doing things that it never has before, but it must be controlled. The effect known as, “the grey goo effect”, occurs when a self replicating nano-machine goes out of control and replicates its self until they engulf the world. In our ventures into this unexplored world, we must be careful. |
