INFORMATION ON THE POTENTIAL STATE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN 2011

Information on potential state shutdown impact on Anoka-Hennepin
Anoka-Hennepin is planning for the possibility of a potential state government shutdown (summer 2011).

We have planned ahead and borrowed money to continue operating. At this point, all departments will continue to operate normally and school will open as usual in the fall even if a shutdown is extended. This means:
  • Summer school will continue
  • AdventuresPlus childcare will continue
  • All Community Education programs will continue
  • Community use of district facilities will continue as arranged
  • Payroll will continue to issue checks
  • Summer Institute for teachers will go ahead as planned

The only exception at this time:
GRAD testing for high school students who have registered to take tests July 12, 13 or 19 will not occur if the state is in shutdown. These tests are administered by a vendor of the state. If the state is shut down, its vendors are not allowed to work.

Update 07/11/11: The July 12 and 13 GRAD tests (reading and mathematics) have been cancelled. The next opportunity to test will be in October during the school day.

Updated 07/15/11:
The July 19 (writing) test was cancelled as of July 15. Students who registered for the writing test will be notified when it is rescheduled.

The district's Research, Evaluation, Testing Department (RET) mailed postcards to students who registered for testing. For updated information about GRAD testing for 2011-12, visit the RET website here or call 763-506-1116.

Information for licensed staff
We have been informed by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) that staff who need to renew or obtain new licenses will not be able to do so during a state shutdown. Teachers who do not have teaching licenses valid for the coming school year will not be allowed to teach in the fall.

This page will be updated as new information becomes available.
