Task 1

Identify two companies and one product produced by each company that directly relate to the NCT technical application your team has selected.

iRobot Inc.

iRobot Scooba 230 Floor Washing Robot

K-Team Mobile Robotics

Khepera III

Task 2

Identify one professional association or trade organization associated with the products your team identified.

Include:
• Name
• Description of its mission
• Number of people/companies involved

Robotics Industries Association

Mission statement: Robotic Industries Association publishes Robotics Online which provides information to help engineers, managers and executives apply and justify robotics and flexible automation. The site includes a proprietary search engine algorithm that makes it easy to find and compare leading companies, products and services. Robotics Online is dedicated to news, articles and information specifically for the robotics industry.

RIA members contribute content, serve as experts for “Ask the Experts" and guide the Association with input from committees and volunteers that help write robot standards and technical reports. Publications, including safety standards and risk assessment software, are available from the online bookstore.

Founded in 1974, RIA is the only trade group in North America organized specifically to serve the robotics industry. Member companies include leading robot manufacturers, users, system integrators, component suppliers, research groups, and consulting firms.

Task 3

Propose and describe a new product or new process based on your team's NCT technical application.

Our robot is a autonomous robot meaning that it will have to operate by itself. The treads will help the robot detect that it is on ice and will do its job and help it keep traction on the ice. The maximum thickness of ice is about 1 inch to up to 15 ft. The 4 individual sensors work together and take thicknesses of different areas of the lake and send the info to the sensor mainframe where it calculates the overall safety, and maximum and minimum thicknesses. The mainframe then sends to the Display in which the people read the information collected. The robot is also durable having anti-rust coating to the shell and the big clearence underneath, to plow through snow.

Task 4

Via the Internet, locate a company that might be able to manufacture your team’s proposed product. Send the company an e-mail asking that someone in the company evaluate the product your team proposed. Provide on your website the e-mail request you sent, the names of manufacturers to whom you sent the request and include any responses received.

My classmates and I are entered in a global competition named ISTF, we are in the process of designing a robot that measures the thickness of ice. We have encountered a problem though and we need your help, our robot has treads but we cannot seen to be able to draw a detailed diagram of treads for our robot. Me and my partners have seen your show and admire your robots. if you could help us out that would be great. Here is our problem statement and solution statement

 Title of Team: Ice Breakers

Problem/Research Statement: (A statement of no more than 50 words that describes the problem this team will try to solve with this project.)

Our mechanical device is a robot that tests the thickness of the ice so people do not have to put their life in danger measuring the thickness of the ice in the fall and winter or whenever needed.

Solution Statement: (A statement of no more than 50 words explaining how the NCT Technology Sub-Area selected above will be used to solve this problem.)

This robot solves the problem of people putting their lives in danger measuring the thickness of the ice and can save many lives if used correctly.
