Somtimes the author puts his/her remarks in the foreward or prologue of the book.

Many individual magazines and newspapers have book reviews.  Some magazines that specialize in book reviews include:

  • Booklist,
  • Horn Book
  • Kirkus Reviews
  • Kliatt,
  • Publishers
  • School Library Journal,
  • New York Times Book Review,
  • VOYA (paperback books)

      Use the Web

      • IPL - the internet public library has literary criticism
      • Bookspot - another place to look for book reviews *hint - this is also a great place to find lots of things about books.
      • Check the homepage of the book's publisher
      • Does the author have a homepage?
      • Google Scholar - you can search for your e-book and literary criticism here. 
      • Online book publishers (Barnes and Noble, Amazon etc.) will often have book reviews for reliable sources. Watch out for the epinions given by everyone else which would not have the credibility as other sources
      • Literary History  - giving your book a historical lense
