Why I love teaching my IB course: First, I love teaching IB Spanish because my students are so invested in their own learning. IB students are so eager to KNOW things and to be able to use their knowledge and skills in real world applications...this hunger for knowledge and experience invigorates me and inspires me to constantly find new ways to help my studnets reach their full potential. I also love that IB classes end up being real learning communities. We are always working toward a common goal, and the students support me and support each other in that journey.

I enjoy widening the cultureal competency of my students by studing the diversity of the french speaking world. I love watching the student progression of skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in the French language. What I hear from past graduates who took my course: Students tell me that they learned that different does not mean worse when it comes to culture. Many of my former students go on a semester abroad during their univeristy years. The best academic piece of advice to students: Learn how to study! Short, intensive sessions of study are better then one long cram session. Try to use some French every day: listen to French radio and read articles in French, use computer resources. All humans have the capacity to learn several languages! Favorite thing to do besides teaching IB classes: Travel to France and Germany, reading over 1000 books per year, gardening, biking, dog training and photography. |

Why I love teaching my IB course: I have the best kids at Champlin Park! :) I love their radomness, their creativity, and their brillance. If a student is going to study music in college, there really is no better music prep course than this.
What I hear from past graduates who took my course: They have appreciated what they learned in IB Music. They have either been able to test out of classes or earn elective credits. One of my students who is going into music education used our IB class activities for her practicum work.
The best piece of academic advice to students: Stick with it! It makes college easier.

Why I love teaching my IB course: I just love seeing students succeed and be creative thinkers!
What I hear from past graduates who took my course: Students claim two major things:
1. They learned to write well after being in IB for two years.
2. They learned to be great participations in classroom discussion. And while they may not realize it, IB students have learned to become good, creative thinkers! I argue that these are the basics of the collegiate experience. If you can learn to do these things well before you leave high school, you will be successful in college. The best academic piece of advice to students: Stick with the challenges! No one ever said it was going to be easy, they just said it was going to be worth it!

Why I love teaching my IB course: The Kids are fun and motivated. Since it's an honors level course I can push and challenge them and they rise to the challenge! Why I love teaching my IB course: I really enjoy working with students who are thinking at a high level and working on rigorous content while preparing to pass exams.

When they get into their calculus classes in college, they are much better prepared than their peers. Also, many have said that the calculus class here at CP mimicks the college experience to a greater extent than some of their other high school courses.
