Oak View H1N1 Flu Notification
|
Oak View Middle School Parents and Guardians,
Our school has reached the threshold that the Minnesota Department of Health has requested we report to them for flu-like symptoms. We want our families to be aware of this, but we do not want you to be unnecessarily concerned.
We encourage you to keep the following points in mind:
• You should continue sending your students to school as usual, as long as they are healthy.
• Remind your students that washing their hands frequently and covering their cough is the best way to ensure that they and those around them do not get sick.
• Keep an eye out for flu symptoms in your child. Symptoms of H1N1 are similar to those for the seasonal flu: fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, coughing, runny nose, sore throat and sometimes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
• Your child should stay home if they have a fever over 100 degrees with a cough or sore throat. They can return to school when their fever has been gone for 24 hours with out fever reducing medication. Generally students will be able to return to school 5 to 7 days from start of symptoms.
• If your child is medically fragile, you should speak to his or her physician to see what they recommend.
