The Ramsey PTO will be hosting an all school Read-A-Thon in October/November. The program promotes reading while allowing us to raise funds to support our school. Students will collect pledges from family and friends to support their reading efforts. All we have to do is read, read, and read some more!
Money raised will benefit students and teachers directly by paying for educational programs and materials. This year we have set a goal of $10,000. Every donation, no matter how large or small, will make a difference in your child’s education!
Our Read-A-Thon begins October 26 and wraps up on November 8, 2012. Students will be asking family and friends to become sponsors by making a flat donation. Pledges can be gathered at anytime during the Read-A-Thon and all contributions are tax deductible. Check to see if your employer will match donations for non-profit organizations. If so, please make a note on your Read-A-Thon envelope and have checks payable to Ramsey PTO. Students will keep track of their sponsors by writing their name and donation amount on the Read-A-Thon envelope. Again, we encourage students to seek sponsorship from friends and family rather than going door to door.
During this time, we hope that every child will participate in daily reading at home. This includes someone reading to the child, the child reading aloud, and reading done for pleasure. This will ensure that all grades are able to participate. Parents should help students keep track of their reading minutes. In addition to the regular monthly reading logs given to students by their classroom teachers, students will also need to keep track of daily reading on the blue reading minute log sheets and at the bottom of the Read-A-Thon envelope.
Reading minute sheets will be turned in each Friday (or the next school day for Kindergarten). Pledges will be collected at the end of the Read-A-Thon and can be turned into classroom teachers.

All Read-A-Thon materials and dates to remember will be posted on the Ramsey PTO website.
Mark your calendar for Pizza Night/Read-A-Thon wrap-up on November 19 from 5:30-7:30. We will have a fun evening of pizza and entertainment. This evening also serves as a PTO General Meeting.
Again, the Read-A-Thon will begin on October 26 and end on November 8, 2012. On Friday, November 9 place all pledge checks and the final blue minute recording sheet in your Read-A-Thon envelope and return it to your teacher. Make checks payable to Ramsey PTO, and please do not send cash.
