Debate Resources

Brainstorm and choose a topic of interest. Below are some suggested **media resources to help you put your essay together:

Use print sources Check Destiny. Some **media sources to consider include any books with selected series dealing with opposing viewpoints such asThe Reference Shelf, Opposing Viewpoints, At Issue, Current Controversies, and Issues and Controversies

Use almanacs for statistical information
Use dictionaries and subject specific encyclopedias for background information
Do personal interviews with experts: on your topic
Check the Opacs at all the major state and college libraries (MNlink.org) to check out print materials relating to your topic. You can reserve any materials and have them sent to the library of your choice with a public library card and pin number.

Electronic Periodical Resources Here are 4 terrific databases (from e-resources) to use. Remember to use your login & passwords to use these remotely.

Click the e-resources icon on the digital IMC homepage. The suggested **databases to consider include any media dealing facts, statistics, examples, anecdotes, quotations, graphs or tables to support your argument such as:

CQ Researcher :(Husky hint *the pro/con area will show opposing viewpoints)
Gale Opposing Viewpoints (Husky hint *type your subject into the search box even if it is not on the list given. Check all the tabs and left sidebar for links to new ideas)
SIRS Issues Researcher (new)
Points of View Reference Center (new)

Use the Web - these should have a credible authors (experts to support your arguments) and statistical information such as:

Record Your Info and Cite your Resources
