Parent Link message for February 11, 2012 Hi, this is Gary Lundeen, Interim Principal at Oak View Middle School. Parent/Guardian Internet Safety Presentation On Thursday, March 1, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Oak View Middle School will host an internet safety presentation for parents and guardians. Parents/guardians and students are invited to attend this informational session on internet safety, cyber-bullying and social media. This district presentation is an opportunity to learn about tools and sites students are using in today’s digital world, as well as tips and strategies for parents/guardians to keep their student(s) safe. Middle school students across the district, including here at Oak View, have viewed a student-friendly presentation by our technology teacher and media specialist about Internet safety. Grades 6 & 7 MCA Reading Pilot Test Oak View Middle School has been selected by the State of Minnesota to pilot a new electronic version of the MCA Reading tests. All 6th and 7th graders will take this pilot test for the state during the week of Feb. 13. For more information about this pilot test and to view sample questions, please refer to the Oak View Middle School electronic newsletter sent to your email this last Thursday, Feb. 9. One Book, One Community A reminder during the month of February all staff and students are participating in a school-wide read. Students are reading, The Running Dream by Wendelin Van Draanen during their ILA classes and participating in a variety of activities related to the book during their PRIDE classes. Black History Month February is recognized as Black History Month. This year’s theme honors the contributions African American women have made to our nation and society. Each week on video announcements, students will be introduced to African American women in history. For planning purposes, Monday, February 13 is a Day 1. Thanks and have a great weekend. |

Above & Beyond Award Nominations Many Anoka-Hennepin staff members go above and beyond normal job expectations to ensure that Anoka-Hennepin students receive a high quality education in a safe and nurturing environment. The Above and Beyond Awards involve students, staff, parents and community members in recognizing and rewarding Anoka-Hennepin employees—teachers, secretaries, cooks, paras, custodians and others – who consistently go that extra mile so students can be successful. Please find information about how to nominate a staff member listed at the top of our webpage. Or, you may contact the office for a hard-copy of the nomination form. Communications Parent and Guardian communication is a priority at Oak View Middle School. I’d like to take the time to provide a few additional resources in case you are experiencing technical difficulties with communication. · If you are not receiving ParentLink messages regularly, or are having issues with the messaging, please contact the district office at 763.506.4357 for assistance. · If you miss part of the message, or would like to refer back to a message, you may call 1.866.208.5273 and follow the prompts to listen to previously sent messages. In addition to these weekly ParentLink messages, I want to remind you that we have started a monthly electronic newsletter. To date, more than half of our families have subscribed and are taking advantage of this communication tool. We’d love to see this number increase! Parent Link message for January 28, 2012 Hi, this is Gary Lundeen, Interim Principal at Oak View Middle School. February Celebrations During the month of February we celebrate Black History Month and I Love to Read Month. Throughout February, a variety of special announcements and activities are planned to acknowledge these important themes. On Monday, each student will receive a copy of The Running Dream, written by Wendelin Van Draanen. This is our One Book, One Community school-wide read. We are excited about this opportunity to promote literacy. Spirit Week The week of January 30th is Spirit Week at Oak View Middle School. This is a fun and exciting way to show school spirit and build a sense of community! The daily themes are as follows:
Activity Night Our second trimester Activity Night will be this Thursday, February 2 from 3:05 to 5:00 p.m. We encourage our students to join us for a great afternoon to socialize with friends and enjoy a variety of activities. Here are a few reminders to make this a smooth and enjoyable Activity Night: · Tickets are $5.00 and will be sold before school from 7:45 to 8:15 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. · Activity buses will be available to take students home. The Activity Buses depart Oak View at 5:15 p.m. · Parent pick up is in front of the school at 5:00 p.m. · Students are expected to remain at the Activity Night until 5:00 p.m. Any student who needs to leave early, must bring a signed note from a parent/guardian to be released from the school grounds.
Oak View Middle School Principal Selection Process Meeting Parents/Guardians are invited to attend a meeting scheduled for this Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. to provide input about the principal selection process for Oak View Middle School. |
