Task One

Identify two companies and one product produced by each company that directly relate to the NCT technical application your team has selected.

Originally, GPS was made for military use, but in the 1980's, it became available to the public. Many companies make GPS tracking devices. This includes Tomtom, the world's best selling automotive GPS, Magellan, and the two GPS companies I'm going to tell you about, which includes Garmin, and Sony.

Garmin creates navigation and communication devices that people use everyday. One of their products is the Nuvi 5000, which comes with an MP3 player, an FM receiver, and a video game out put with games. It also tells you the street names as you pass them. Another company, which is new to the GPS industry, is Sony. One of Sony's products is the NAV-U NV-U83T, which has a touch screen with a wonder of colors that make the dual views pop and easier to see. It also has Bluetooth for hands free talking.

Task Two

Identify one professional association or trade organization associated with the products your team identified. Include: its name, description of its mission, and numberof people/companies involved.

The organization that uses the gps regularly is the military. The military uses the gps to signal the helicopters to come and get them and it tells the people where certain people are. The gps in Iraq shows if there is a city filled with violence or not. The gps is a form of radar which detects incoming missiles and enemy planes, radar stands for radio detection and ranging. People use the gps on missions to mark the cities that got cleared out of bad people. There are about two million people that serve in the army that use the gps regularly to save themselves and all of their comrades.

Task Three

Propose and describe a new product or new process based on your team's NCT technical application.

We have a new product for NASA to use. A handheld LPS tracking device, which is basically a handheld GPS system for the moon. When astronauts, and eventually colonists, are on the moon they can find their way around better and know where to go in order to find what they want. This would be more useful on the moon because there are no roads or any landmarks to let you know where you are or where you're going. On the other hand, this product would have very limited sales because there will probably never be many people on the moon at the same time.   In order for this to work there would have to be satellites in space around the moon. This product would likely be very expensive and we could make a lot of money.

Task Four

Via the Internet, locate a company that might be able to manufacture your team's proposed product. Send the company an e-mail asking that someone in the company evaluate the product your team proposed. If your team is not able to obtain a response to your inquiry, provide on your website an example of the e-mail request you sent and the names of manufacturers to whom you sent the request.

To Whom It May Concern:

We are a group of students from Blaine High School participating in a national competition called the Internet Science and Technology Fair. We have designed a Lunar Positioning System (LPS). The features of our product include a satellite launching into the moons orbit, graphing the moons topographical features and converting a standard Global Positioning System into receiving the satellites information to show where certain craters and locations are on the moon. We believe this is a good fir for your company because of your upcoming moon mission in the year 2020.

As a requirement for the competition is that we contact a company in the industry to review our product. We have identified you as the industry leader in On-the-fly GPS Positioning. We would be grateful if you would review our product and gave us feedback.

Thank You for taking the time to review our product. We appreciate it!

Sincerely,

Lunar Eclipse
