This page is a space to learn about the opportunities presented to students at Coon Rapids Middle School. The Talent Development program creates opportunities for students to explore something new or return to one of interest. This year will be full of exciting opportunities for our Talent Development students.

Young Scientist Roundtables:

Held at Wayzata schools and give students an opportunity to investigate and learn more about how science is a part of our world. Parents must drive students. Science teachers have this information posted by their doors. The first roundtable is October 4.

Destination Imagination:

A problem solving competitive activity Competition Date is March 24, 2011, at Blaine High School

Creativity Festival:

A daylong activity sponsored by Success Beyond the Classroom that focuses in on enriching the creative mind of bright kids. Festival Date is Nov 29, 2011

Geography Bee:

A competition centered around knowledge of Geography

Spelling Bee: 

A competition centered around spelling; the middle school district-wide bee is Wednesday, Jan 25, 2012

Optimist Oratorical Contest and Pullout:

Sponsored by the local Optimist group, the pullout teaches kids to create, write, and deliver persuasive speeches. Later a competition is offered for scholarships. Pullout date is Feb 7, 2012

STEM Fair:

Competition involving science, technology, engineering, and math. Held at Anoka HS in Jan 2012

Lego Robotics Competition:

The League Robotics team will meet throughout the winter months with Competition held in March 2012. Contact the Community Education department.

Past Information:

Knowledge Bowl and Knowledge Masters- two jeopardly "trivia" activities will be starting early October. See Mr. Roberts for more information. KNOWLEDGE BOWL has started. We have 22 kids signed up!! If anyone else is interested, please see Mr. Roberts in Room 154. The meets are Nov 11 at CRMS Dec. 9 @ Centennial Jan. 6 @ Centennial We are looking for Destination Imagination coaches for the 2008-2009 season. There are training sessions for interested coaches- again see Mr. Roberts or Mr. Dahlheimer at Community Education for imformation. An Architectural tour of Minneapolis is lining up for this fall. Students will tour the Byzantine Mausoleum at Lakewood Cemetery, The Basilica and the New Guthrie among others. We wil finish with Supper at the World Market and look at the Art Deco structure of the old Sears building which houses the World Market.
