While at the Family Welcome Center (FWC), the support staff assists the family with the registration process.  A brief orientation is given to families so they may gain basic understanding of the Anoka-Hennepin Schools.  Even if these families are transferring from a local school, policies and procedures do differ.

The Family Welcome Center will also offer resource materials, including community organizations and county services. For older students, the staff discusses various graduation and/or post-secondary options that may be of interest.

The Family Welcome Center reviews and/or completes the following with the families:

• Free and Reduced Lunch Application
• Request of Information (from former school, if applicable)

To provide consistent and appropriate program recommendation for a student, a potential K-12 EL (English Learner) will be assessed for language proficiency at the Family Welcome Center.  A Math assessment component for secondary students was added to our process in June 2007. 

The results of the assessment will be shared with the parents/guardians so the family may make an appropriate decision concerning their child's academic participation in the ESL program.  The Intake Specialist at the Family Welcome Center, in turn, uses this assessment data to make academic recommendations or level of service for the student.

If you or someone you know has experienced harassment, violence, discrimination, or bullying at school or at any school-related event for any reason, you may make a report to have the incident(s) investigated by the school district.
