Important things to know for parents and guardians: The letters HW stand for "homework" and the work is due the next day unless there's a specific due date indicated. For Math you will see a combination of the Everyday Math homelink assignments, which has a little house in the upper right hand side of the paper, and some days with math sheets with HW marked at the top. I keep track of the HW assignments which I use to determing the report card indicator: Gets work done on time.
Please have your student show you their red home folder every night. Students will put have important papers in here and their homework assignments. It is a good idea to get into a daily routine of checking their work and guiding them to become responsible for their work. ____________________________________________
What to work on at home with your child:
1. Spelling list words. Refer to the monthly calendar for the specific unit we are working on. Staring with Unit 18 the students are learning about short vowel & long vowel sounds and the rules that apply to syllables in words.
2. Listening to your child read and read to them everyday. Be sure to mark the minutes down on the monthly reading calendar!!!
3. Practice Math facts: Doubles (2+2, 3+3, 4+4 etc) Combinations of 10 (9+1=10, 8+2=10...) Addition and subtraction equations up to 20 (13+7=20, 10+8=18, 9+10=19, 15-12= 3, 18-8=10...). Doing so will give your child FACT POWER!!
4. Practice Math subtraction facts: once the addition facts are solid be sure to then turn the problem into a subtraction problem. Examples: if they know 12+8 = 20 then work on 20-12= ? or 20-8=?
