Welcome to first grade! Here are some suggestions that you may find helpful. Please encourage your child to read at least 10-15 minutes everyday. To help create this reading habit, help your child find a comfortable place to read and read at the same time each day, whenever possible. Be sure to record the minutes read on the blue bookworm page that comes home on Mondays.

You can help your child with math skills by practicing the flashcards with the basic addiition and subtraction facts to 10. Please play the math games that come home with your child a number of times. A challenging topic in first grade math is counting coins. Any practice you can provide with counting combinations of coins would be very helpful. **Home links (math homework) are sent home with your child daily. These home links help children with current math skills as well as practice review skills. Please send the home link folder back to school daily.

Please take time to go through your child's take home folder every night. Tuesday is the day many papers are sent home from the school office. Monday is the day the spelling words are sent home. However, your child will bring home books and papers many days. Please help your child by going through their folder daily. Thanks!
