Assistive Technology
Assistive technology encompasses everything that is needed to help a student be successful. This may be something as simple as a pencil grip, or as complex as computer technology. Our department uses the SETT framework when determining students assistive technology needs. SETT is an acronym that stands for the following: * S is for student - we look at student needs and current abilities, not the student's disability * E is for environment - sometimes what needs to be adjusted is the environment and not the student * T is for task - what do you want the student to gain and how can you ensure active participation * T is for tool - the tools/assistive technology is chose only after the first three areas are examined The purpose of assisitive technology is to build on student success, and if success isn't occuring to help make it possible for the student to be successful.
