Our overall theme in first grade science is "Observing and Describing Our World". Each season brings a new big picture to our curriculum. Changes in the weather will be our emphasis in the fall. During the winter we will learn to sort and classify objects by various properties. We will observe the development of plants and animals in the spring as we build and maintain aquariums and terrariums. Visiting with the Coon Rapids Dam naturalists each month will allow us to observe the changes in the environment and the animals that live there. We will also spend time each month in our plot, sitting quietly as we observe and record the changes we see.  We also have the unique opportunity of working with the staff at the Minnesota Arboretum three times each year. We are excited to work in both our greenhouse and nature center. A highlight of our science curriculum will center around designing and tending our First Grade Garden!
