ADAMS PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL
January 8, 2004
Attendees: David Knauber, Greg Zandlo, Leanne Hyde, Amy Sparrow,  Penny Deluce-Taylor, Nancy Leba, Teresa Strouts, Barb Dupont, Ann Roberge, Debby Boyd, Bev Pitoscia-Lloyd, Mary Gillson, Corinne Carney, James White, Jo Newman-Bosak, Tammy Lofgren-Doege, Albert Cooper.
WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER: Amy Sparrow called the meeting to order at 7:05PM.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA: MSC
APPROVAL OF December 4, 2003 MINUTES: MSC, with correction: “state” not “federal” taxes.
TREASURERS’ REPORT: KOS expenses & income; Barnes & Nobles income from gift wrapping; some profit from shirt sales at KOS. MSC
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: NANCY LEBA
1. Students wrote letters to a soldier in Iraq with ties to Adams School.
2. Target Grant: received $5000 to promote parent partnership in literacy. Will set up a Parent Lending Library.  Any ideas of what should be included contact Nancy Leba.
3. Miss Jennifer Johnson married in December; now Mrs. Popp.
4. Over the years, declining enrollment has been due to ESL students being bussed to Sorteburg.  In Fall, these students will return to Adams (35-40 students). Will need to work at involving these parents into the Adams community.
5. Arts & Academics forms are due Friday.

GUEST SPEAKERS: MARY GILLSON & CORINNE CARNEY (MATH CURRICULUM)
 Mrs. Gillson and Ms. Carney reported that the math curriculum includes two components:
1. Investigations (includes all strands of mathematics)
2. Calendar Math, which includes the Practice Counts book. Calendar math involves 15 minutes every day. It includes counting days of school, place values, counting by 10’s, and money.
Ms. Carney added that older grades use fractions.  She also noted that students learn math facts not by memorization but through constant use.
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR REPORT: No report
1. DARE graduation on January 27 at 2:30PM
2. Carnival: Drew Lundquist will head committee and hold first meeting soon.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
A. FINANCE: Tax Exempt status in limbo until Bylaws approved. Purchase of clip boards.
B. PROGRAMS: surprise.
C. NEEDS & RESOURCES:  will need to reimburse school fund for purchases made.
D. PUBLIC RELATIONS/COMMUNICATIONS: Showed clips from CR Herald from Turkey Olympics and KOS.  Will try to get pictures from Herald for PAC scrap book.
BYLAW CHANGES:
Changes read to Council.  Suggestion from member to limit Executive Board membership to parents of students and staff was rejected by Council.  MSC
OPEN FORUM
· Kemps and LOL milk caps: will contact Jennifer Bendel-Artmann to see if she is willing to count both.
· Sour milk in lunchroom: Nancy will contact Cindy.
