April 2013

To:   Seniors and Parents/Guardians
From:    Chris Nelson, Assistant Principal – House III

Congratulations to the Class of 2013!  We are proud of you!

The following information should answer many questions you may have regarding graduation.  You will receive specific information regarding the ceremony when you pick up your cap and gown.

Commencement is a Privilege – Any senior who makes the decision to become involved in any inappropriate behavior as determined by CPHS administration prior to commencement may not be allowed to participate in the ceremony.  We are proud of you and your exemplary behavior and we expect it to continue.

Class Orator Tryouts – If you are interested in being a speaker at graduation please see Ms. Carlson for details in House III by Friday, May 3.  Tryouts will be held Wednesday, May 8 after school.

Senior Meeting – CPHS Administration will meet with the seniors on Wednesday, May 15 (during advisement) to communicate expectations.

Last Day for Seniors – The last day for seniors will be Wednesday, May 29.  Students will be released during 4th period.

Senior BBQ – Wednesday, May 29, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM.  A special lunch menu will be served to the Class of 2013 to celebrate their LAST day of high school.  All seniors are welcome!!!

Cap and Gown Distribution – Caps and gowns will be distributed in the CPHS field house on Saturday, June 1 from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM.  Please remember to bring a picture ID and money to pay fines (if needed).  You, or your parent/guardian, must be present to receive your cap and gown.  If you have an outstanding fine, fee or credit discrepancy, your gown will not be issued.  There is no fee for the cap, gown and tassel (which you keep).

Honor Graduates – Honor status will be determined mid-May.  Lists will be posted in the house offices.  Students should check this list and report concerns to their counselor ASAP.  Highest Honor (gold stole and tassel), High Honor (gold cord and tassel), and Honor (gold tassel) graduates will receive these items with their cap and gown on Saturday, June 1.  Please note that the gold honor tassel is for the graduate to keep, however cords and stoles must be returned (or purchased – cord $5/stole $10) to receive your diploma.

Fines/Fees/Credits – Outstanding fines and fees or a discrepancy of credits on your transcript will result in your gown being withheld.  Please check with your house office to ensure that all financial and academic obligations have been met prior to gown distribution Saturday, June 1.

Graduation Ceremony Etiquette - Please be respectful of all our graduates during the ceremony.  To help support this expectation we ask that you do not bring balloons or air horns to the ceremony.  Also, please refrain from cheering/yelling (when this happens it makes it difficult to hear the next graduate’s name).  Thank you for your special attention to this matter.
