1)  Q I am a student and I have an urgent concern.
A
  1. If you are afraid that you or someone you know is in danger of hurting themselves or another person:
  • if you are at home or in the community call 911 if the danger is immediate.

 

  • if you are at home or in the community call a crisis number:  

  763-755-3801(Riverwind Crisis Services) or

612-39-6363 (Crisis Connection) - these phones are answered 24 hours per day by professional counselors. These calls are confidential.

 

  • if you are at school, immediately talk to the school nurse, guidance counselor or school psychologist. If you are concerned about a friend, we can keep this confidential, we will not tell your friend that you came to us.

 

2. If you or someone you know needs to talk to someone about  sexual abuse or sexual assault - call  the Sexual Violence Center 24 hour crisis line 612-871-5111

3. GLBT youth 24-hour crisis line,  call TREVOR HOTLINE    1-866-488-7386

 

4. If you or someone you know is homeless or has run away from home, call:  The Bridge for Youth - 612-377-8800 ( crisis, shelter, counseling)

Adolescent Inpatient Mental Health Emergency:

 ****Although Mercy Hospital will assess an adolescent in crisis, they do not have an adolescent inpatient ward - they will need to have your teen transported by ambulance to another facility if he/she needs to be admitted for inpatient services.

3)  Q I am a staff member and I have a concern about a student - who do I refer this student to?
A
  • Urgent mental health or emotional issues (e.g. suicidality, disorganized and bizarre behavior) - phone call to School Nurse, School Psychologist or Guidance Counselor. If not available, call an Administrator. You must speak to someone in person - do not leave the student unsupervised

 

  • Self-Inflicted Injurious Behavior (cutting, scratching, burning etc...) - School Nurse or Guidance Counselor

 

  • Non-urgent emotional/family/behavioral or academic concerns - refer to Guidance Counselor

 

  • Any student receiving Special Education services having emotional, social, behavioral or family issues - Case Manager and School psychologist

 

  • Mediation (before it has escalated into discipline issue) - Prevention Specialist or Guidance Counselor

 

  • Suspected Gang activity - Assistant Principal

 

  • Suspected Use of tobacco/alcohol/illegal substances - Assisitant Principal
