Answers
1)  Q What can I do to be successful in 6th grade?
A
When you do these things you will increase your success in the classroom
1. Be ready to learn when class begins,
2. Bring all materials to class daily,
3. Complete all assignments on time,
4. Treat all people with politeness,
dignity and respect,
5. Stay on task until finished or time is
up,
6. Be part of a trusting atmosphere that
promotes positive self-esteem in
everyone.
7. Remember to fill in your assignment
during each class.
2)  Q What about homework?!
A
You will have between 30-60 minutes of homework each night. The subjects will vary, but even if you don't have homework you should take time to practice spelling, do independent reading
or study concepts being taught in class.
More material is covered during class than in elementary school. Studying frequently will help you be ready for tests.
3)  Q What about attendance?
A
It is important that you miss as little school as possible. Science, language arts, social studies and math are all taught as "hand's on lessons and these cannot be made up easily. It you miss more than 2 days please have your parent leave a request for homework early in the day. This will help you stay caught up in your classes.
4)  Q What is an assignment notebook?
A
The first day of school each student will be given a Jackson Jaguar assignment notebook. This book NEEDS to be filled in daily and will be checked during Advisory. It is good to have your parent check it everyday for the first month. There are also places at the bottom of the pages for you to use as a pass from the class so take good care of this notebook so you don't have to replace it during the year.
If you have any questions about the dates of upcoming events please check the inside of your assignment book for the Jackson calendar or the website.
5)  Q What should I do if I can't remember if I have homework?
A
If you forget what you have as homework or upcoming events please check the 6D web site or the A-H Connect Calendar.
6)  Q What about chewing gum?
A
This will depend on the teacher. Make sure you ask to find out what classroom rules apply in each class.
7)  Q What is the policy about late homework?
A
Turning in homework on time is important for developing responsible work habits and learning important concepts as they are being discussed. Homework is due on the day announced unless the student is absent. If an assignment is not turned in on time full credit may not be given. All work is required to be done. Turning it in on time will help your grade and keep your teacher from getting more gray hairs!
.
8)  Q What is the grading scale?
A
I use a standard grading scale:

100 - 90% A
89 - 80% B
79 - 70% C
69 - 60% D
59 and less F

There are three areas for grading and each is weighed a certain percent:
65% - Formative Assessment: Quizzes and Tests
25% - Classwork and Homework
10% - District Summative Assessments: Trimester Tests
