Students are allowed to enter the building at 9:10 each day. Students eating breakfast will also be allowed to enter at 9:10. Students are not allowed to enter the classrooms early unless the teacher has given prior permission and is in attendance.
What do I need to do if someone else is picking up my child?
A
Please send a note with your child or contact the teacher by phone or email to set up the changes. This needs to be done before the end of the day rush. We work hard to make your child's safety paramount. If the people who are picking up your child are unknown to the teacher they will be required to show picture identification to office personnel before the child will be allowed to leave with them. We may need to verify this information with parents prior to the child's leaving. Please make sure that our numbers to contact you are always current.
What time should I arrive to have lunch with my child?
A
Kindergarten will go to lunch at 12:25 or 12:30 most days. Please sign at the office and wear your VISITOR button. You can meet us by the K-2 Diner doors. On field trip days our lunch time is often different. Please call us if you need more information! We are always happy to see parents, grandparents and other family members for lunch!
Lunch money can be sent to school with your child. You may send a check, money order or cash enclosed in an envelope addressed "LUNCH MONEY" with your child's name and lunch number. These are collected by the classroom teacher daily and turned into the cafeteria office. It helps to remind your child that the money needs to be given to their teacher. Please make sure that money or checks are identified with your student's name and lunch number.
You may also bring money directly to the school office or use AH Connect to make an online payment.
Should my Kindergartner have outdoor clothing daily?
A
It is expected that each child comes with outdoor wear appropriate to the weather.
Rain gear on rainy days and light jackets or sweatshirts on chilly days. Umbrellas are usually a hazard and are not suggested.
Winter gear is boots, snow pants, hats, mittens or gloves, and a warm coat.
PLEASE LABEL YOUR CHILD'S OUTDOOR CLOTHING!
As we do hike to the Coon Rapids Dam and have outdoor science we do recommend that your child dress in layers. That way the students can be comfortable in the varying outdoor temperatures.
Students go to the Media Center to check out a book. The students learn how to check out books, learn basics about use and care of media materials, along with having new books or authors introduced by our Media Paras. One book per child is allowed and the students can check out a new book on a daily basis. If your child forgets to return their book they will not be allowed to check out another book until the book is returned. Books that are lost are paid for so the student may continue to check out books. If the book is found and returned, the student will receive a refund of the monies paid.
What is D'Nealian Handwriting and Kindergarten Style name writing?
A
D'Nealian Handwriting uses a style of letter formation that facilitates the transition to cursive handwriting. The letters are usually described as having a slant and "tails". The lowercase letter "k" is a tough one that looks like the uppercase "R".
Kindergarten Style names are first letter uppercase and the rest of the name lowercase. Students are required to know and write both first and last names by mid-year in Kindergarten.
District Guidelines encourage only healthy snacks. Please send a note or give us a call so that we can expect the treats.
We also have a Birthday Book donation that is often done in lieu of snacks. The birthday child picks out a book to donate to the classroom library. A special bookplate is put in the book to identify the Birthday child and year of donation.
Lost items are usually kept in the classroom if they are left behind in the classroom or hallway by the classrooms. If they are left outdoors they are brought to the CBPA K-2 Wing Lost and Found (in the hallway by the office/workroom). Please send a note in with your child or send in an email and we will go searching.
Labeling your child's outerwear on a tag or inside helps identify whose clothing it is. Just imagine 25 black pairs of snow pants - most in size 4-6 or 6-8 per K classroom!
Items left on the bus are frequently brought to the office where the owner is attempted to be identified or brought to the bus company's lost and found. Please send a note and we can check here. If the item is not here you will need to contact the bus company. Please contact the office for the telephone number.
Can my child just purchase milk for their cold lunch?
A
Yes! Send money in to their lunch account and make sure that your child know that this is fine. If your child does not do this regularly they just need to let the teacher know so we can make sure they are comfortable getting their milk.
