 Cardinal Time

On most Wednesday mornings, we alter the bell schedule slightly starting our first period at 8:08 am.  The reason for this change is to accomodate "Cardinal Time."  This program is designed to facilitate teacher-teacher communication with the purpose of improved instruction.  During Cardinal Time you should arrive at their normal time and assemble in one of the designated locations in our building.  You should be able to visit with friends about assignments, projects, and other school related topics.  Remember, Cardinal Time does not take place every Wednesday.  Do not assume it is taking place.  Rather, check our school calendar to be certain.

 Lockers

New students are assigned lockers through the main office.  You will receive information about locker location (number and combination) when you receive your class schedule.  Here are some things to keep in mind while using a school locker:

  • Always remember to spin your lock dial after closing your locker.
  • Do not give out your combination to anyone.
  • Do not keep valuables in your locker.
  • Electronic devices (cell phones, iPods, etc.) are not recommended in school.  In fact, their use is not permitted.  Do yourself a favor and keep them at home.

 Lunch

Students eat lunch during 4th period at CRHS.  You will learn which of our four lunch period you will attend from your 4th Period teacher.  You will pay for lunches through an electronic account using a PIN [Personal Identification Number] issued by Child Nutrition.  Keep these suggestions in mind:

  • Do not share your PIN number with anyone.
  • You have about 25 minutes to eat lunch.

Students who qualify for a free or reduced price lunch should apply and make use of this program.  To learn more click here.

     Top 10 Tips

We've complied a short "Top 10" list of tips for students new to high school.  Click on the link below and feel free to print a copy.

    Top Ten Tips

     Transition to High School

Starting high school is a time of great excitement for students and their families. For many teens, entering high school is a defining moment. They may feel grown up and ready for independence. At the same time, they may be concerned about how they will fit in with a new group of people and how they will cope with increased academic expectations. They may worry about that first day of school. The building is new to them, teachers are unfamiliar,
and those juniors and seniors are an unknown quantity. Will they be friendly, or will they make life difficult for the new students?

We work hard to make sure that your child feels at home when he or she joins Coon Rapids High School. Every high school in the Anoka-Hennepin School District welcomes students with a program designed to make freshmen feel comfortable in high school and start them on the road to success.

Learn more about transition to high school by reading the brochure below:

     TurnItIn.com

Students at CRHS have a new tool to submit writing assignments that can greatly improve their success.  TurnItIn.com is a world leader in writing submission and evaluation.  Through this system each teacher can manage and evaluate student writing.  We are pleased to have a license allowing our students to participate based on each teacher's practices.  If your student is asked to submit writing through TurnItIn.com, they will access a series of tools that can improve their writing.  No student is required to submit writing through TurnItIn.com.  However, if their teachers provides that opportunity, we highly encourage students to make use of it!

     Videos for Safe School Behavior

Please view each of the videos below.  CRHS is a safe, friendly, and welcoming school.  There is no tolerance for behavior that does not maintain that atmosphere or violates ISD #11 policy.  These videos clarify behaviors that are unacceptable, and help the viewer understand how to avoid the consequences of displaying any of them.  We hope you find each very helpful.

     ZAP 9

Students at CRHS must complete all their assignments.  This is true for students in all grades.  However, for our freshman students we have added the ZAP (Zeros Aren't Permitted) Program.  If a 9th grader does not complete an assignment on time, the teacher of that class refers the student to ZAP 9.  In ZAP 9 the students must attend after-school tutoring each evening from 2:30 - 4:00 pm until the assignment is completed and submitted.  If the student does not attend as assigned, consequences will be assigned.  More detailed information is attached.
