The open enrollment option allows a student to attend a school district outside his or her home school district. Open enrollment is a commitment to another school district, not necessarily the choice of school in that district. Through
the open enrollment option, a student leaves his or her home district for another district.
For example, a student at Osseo Junior High School, which is in the Osseo School District, would request open enrollment to attend Jackson Middle School in the Anoka-Hennepin School District.
Applications for the 2013-14 school year will be accepted Dec. 1, 2012 through Jan. 15, 2013. Open enrollment applications need to be postmarked by Jan. 15, 2013.
Mail open enrollment applications to the superintendent's office of the non-resident district where you wish your student to attend (mailing is encouraged). If you applying to open enroll into Anoka-Hennepin to attend one of our schools, mail your form to:
Anoka-Hennepin School District
Educational Service Center - Information Systems Dept.
2727 N. Ferry St.
Anoka, MN 55303
Submitting an application does not guarantee enrollment in the school you have requested. An application for open enrollment or in-district transfer is approved provided that:
-
space is available under the cap set by the School Board
-
class size limits have not been reached
-
a student's discipline history does not exclude him or her from approval
Decisions are not made based on:
-
previous academic achievement
-
athletic or extracurricular ability
-
disability
-
proficiency in English language
Spaces are capped at 1 percent per grade level for open enrollment and 1 percent per site for in-district transfer. If eligible applications exceed spaces available, spaces will be filled on a random basis (by lot).
