READING CALENDARS

Each month your child will receive a reading calendar. Students are expected to read a minimum of 20-30 minutes 5 days a week. On the front of the calendar they are to record the number of minutes they read in the boxes. At the end of the month they will add up the total minutes for the month.

Students also need to record information on the back of the calendar. They should record the title of the book, the author, genre (type of literature - realistic fiction, fantasy, non-fiction, etc.) and the lexile level. This information only needs to be recorded one time for each book.

At the end of the month the total number of minutes read should be listed on the front of the calendar. It should be signed by the student and the parent and then returned to school. This will be a big part of the 'Reads Widely and Independently' grade on your child's report card.
